The Lancaster JetHawks Appreciate Aerospace


IMG_3282The advance-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies is located in Lancaster, CA, not far from NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center and Edwards Air Force Base. The JetHawks play at The Hangar (formerly known as Lancaster Municipal Stadium), which has a retired NASA F-18 Hornet on display outside of its main entrance.

The JetHawks capitalize on their proximity to NASA in other ways as well. In past years, they’ve given away NASA-themed bobbleheads, like the one they did of Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin in 2007. They even have an Astronaut Race, much like the Washington Nationals president’s race, featuring three famous astronauts, John Glenn, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong:

In addition, every year, the JetHawks host Aerospace Appreciation Night. Two years ago  Buzz Aldrin was honored (again) by the Jethawks and he threw out the first pitch:
