Over this past weekend, I had the opportunity to take in a game in Lawrenceville, GA, at Coolray Field, home of the Gwinnett Stripers, who are the triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders were in town, and it was a close game.
Coolray Field opened for the 2009 season. Prior to moving to Gwinett County, the Stripers played in Richmond, Virginia, under the name of the Richmond Braves. When they moved to Georgia, the were renamed the Gwinnett Braves and changed their name to the Gwinnett Stripers in 2018. They’ve been affiliated with the Braves since 1965.
The stadium is cool, with an apartment complex beyond center field and the seating area situated such that – at least for a 6:05 pm game – many of the seats are in the shade.
It was definitely a great place to see a game!
