Former Bowie Baysox player Mike Yastrzemski hit his first Major League home run Friday night at Oriole Park for the team that wears orange and black – and against the Baltimore Orioles.
Back in March, the Orioles traded Yaz to San Francisco for LHP Tyler Herb (who is currently with triple-A Norfolk). After more than seven seasons in the minors, Yaz made his MLB debut on May 25 and is batting .280 – which is higher than pretty much all of the current Orioles.
The O’s should have kept him. And they should have promoted him long ago.
Once again, the Best of the Week involves Adam Jones. The D-backs put together a nice video of his work:
And let’s not forget the night he pied himself this week:
It was a week where the Nationals lost four in a row and the Orioles lost 2 out of 3 to the Red Sox. But at least Adam Jones is still out there protecting the outfield and entertaining us. (It’s just unfortunate that he’s no longer on one of my favorite teams).
On Thursday, Jones robbed Ronald Acuna, Jr., of a home run, then posted a video of himself loading up on sugar:
And this is what he was eating:
Once again, Adam Jones was the best of the week!
Adam Jones has been the best of the week many times, and this week was no exception. It was good to see him pie-ing his Orioles teammate, Caleb Joseph again. Too bad they’re not still Orioles.

Congrats to Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., on his promotion to the Toronto Blue Jays! Vlad Jr. made his Major League debut of Friday, April 26, 2019, against the Oakland A’s.
So how did he do? We’ll, besides getting a standing ovation or two, he went 1-for-4, hitting a double in the bottom of the ninth. But the Blue Jays won the game and Vladdy has arrived, so that’s all that matters.
In fact, on Wednesday, Twitter was all excited with the announcement that Vlad Jr. was being promoted to the big leagues:
Robinson Cano’s cleats and tweet for Jackie Robinson Day top my list of the Best of the Week:
And this was totally awesome too:
I miss Jones and Markakis!
Best of the Week? There have been a lot this week from Manny’s awesome play on Friday to Baysox Opening Night (when they were no-hit by three Harrisburg pitchers). For me, however, the arrival of my Jose Mendez bobblehead in the mail on Friday was my Best of the Week! Mendez is part of a series of bobbleheads created to commemorate next year’s 100th anniversary of the Negro Leagues. The “Negro Leagues Centennial Team” will feature 32 stars from the Negro Leagues, which will be released throughout the year.
Jose will join Jackie and Hank on my bobblehead shelf.
